With the current elevated focus on handwashing and hand sanitizing you may have concerns about your jewelry. We're here to help answer a few of your most common questions regarding the use of cleaning products and sanitizing liquids on your precious engagement ring, promise ring or wedding band!
A: No, washing with soap and water will not damage your engagement ring or other diamond jewelry. We do recommend to keep build-up and smudges from your jewelry at bay, that you remove rings, bracelets, earrings & necklaces before applying lotions, oils, makeup, and perfumes!
A: Hand sanitizer is made up of rubbing alcohol and will not hurt diamonds or damage the integrity, value, or brilliance of your stone. However, excessive and repeated exposure to cleaning agents or hand sanitizer can make the finish on white gold wear a little faster.
So, if possible, in order to help extend the shine and luster of white gold, you should avoid applying hand sanitizer directly onto your ring. The best option is to remove your ring, apply hand sanitizer, let it dry and then put your ring back on!
Please note! The above only applies to all-diamond jewelry. Repeated contact with cleaning agents such as chlorine, bleach, rubbing alcohol, antibacterial soaps, and hand sanitizers can break down the brilliance or vivid color of gemstone jewelry over time.
